We understand that unexpected expenses can arise. Rent, like any other bill, is due on a weekly basis, and staying ahead on payments can help prevent issues. To provide added flexibility, our tierboxes allow you to pre-pay up to 12 weeks in advance. Simply right-click, select Pay, and choose the 4 weeks option to help safeguard against unexpected financial challenges.
Late Rent
Rent payments are the responsibility of each tenant. Reminders are processed and sent via CasperLet and will follow the schedule as listed:
- Less than a week remaining.
- Less than 3 days remaining.
- Less than 2 days remaining.
- Less than 1 day remaining.
- And one reminder each at 6, 2, 1, and 0 hours remaining.
If your rent becomes overdue, additional reminders are sent:
- At one day overdue: An automated message and a reminder notecard are sent.
- At two days overdue: Another automated message, a reminder notecard, and outreach from our Customer Care team.
- At three days overdue: If no payment or communication has been received, we typically proceed with a reclaim.
While we generally allow for a 3-day leniency period, please note that parcels or regions may be reclaimed as soon as rent reaches 0 days overdue. The additional grace period is offered as a courtesy but should not be relied upon as a guaranteed extension.
By the time a parcel or region is reclaimed, tenants will have received approximately 8 automated messages, 2 reminder notecards, and direct outreach from our Customer Care team totaling around 12 notifications. These messages are sent through Second Life's communication system, so it's important to ensure that you can receive IMs or enable IM-to-Email via the Second Life website. If you prefer additional reminders, setting up a Google Calendar alert or enabling PayPal auto-payments can help ensure payments remain on track.
Extensions
We understand that occasional short-term lapses may occur. If you notify us in advance, we are happy to discuss options to help keep your parcel or region accessible. However, please note that extensions are not guaranteed and are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
When reviewing an extension request, we consider:
- Previous extensions granted
- Frequency of extension requests
- Payment history
- Length of tenancy
Most extensions allow for 3 to 6 days of arrears, though exceptions may be made based on the above criteria. If an extension is approved but we notice signs that the parcel or region has been vacated, the extension may be revoked, and the reclaim process will proceed immediately. To request an extension, please contact us directly.
Expectations
To ensure uninterrupted access to your parcel or region, we strongly recommend keeping rent paid in advance whenever possible. Setting calendar reminders, enabling offline IMs to email, and notifying us ahead of time if you anticipate any issues can help prevent disruptions. It's vital that you are proactive in managing your payments to avoid uninterrupted access.
Adjusting your due date
We recognize that adjusting your rent due date may help align payments with your financial schedule. If you would like to explore this option, please contact a Customer Care agent, and we will provide details on how this can be arranged.
